Frequently Asked Questions

Do I really need to filter my tap water?

The quality of tap water in Ireland is good. The water is treated before it is supplied to your home. However, the water may pick up a lot of impurities while on its way to you. Moreover, the addition of chemicals such as fluoride and chlorine poses a health risk when consumed in large quantities.

A water filter removes these impurities and chemicals making it perfect for drinking and cooking purposes.

Is the water filter better than bottled water?

There is essentially no difference in the quality of bottled water and filtered water. A single-use plastic bottles cost around €600 per year for a family and are not environmental-friendly. On the other hand, filtered water comes at a fraction of a cost and does not deteriorate the environment.

Which water filter should I buy?

We have a lot of options on our website. If you are on mains water, the most common contaminants in your water could be hardness, chlorine, and fluoride. A reverse osmosis system is well suited to remove most contaminants from water. If the water is too hard, we recommend adding a water softener before the filter to enhance its life.

How do CWS filters compare to Brita pitcher filters?

Brita filters use a very simple and cost-effective carbon filter that works well only on chlorine and organic chemicals that affect the taste & smell of water. However, these filters do not remove nitrates, dissolved minerals, bacteria or viruses. Brita filters do not claim to remove fluoride, bacteria, THMs and other heavy metals such as lead and arsenic.

On the other CWS Reverse Osmosis Systems eliminate over 99% of commonly found impurities in water: chlorine, fluoride, heavy metals such as lead, bacteria such as cryptosporidium & cysts, organic matter and much more.

When using water from CWS Reverse Osmosis Systems, you can rest assured you are drinking only the purest water.

What contaminants do water filters remove?

Water filters effectively remove dirt, sediments, suspended solids, chlorine, fluoride, bad taste, lead, arsenic, THMs, cryptosporidium, cysts, and other organic compounds from your drinking water.

However, don’t assume that if a filter removes one contaminant, it also removes others. Our water experts would be able to suggest the best system based on your needs.

How much does it cost to get a water filter?

The prices of water filtration systems can vary widely. Simple systems can start anywhere from €30 to complex systems costing hundreds of euros and requiring professional installation. When buying a water filter, it is also important to consider the maintenance cost which involves the replacement of cartridges, schedule, and ease of use.

What are reverse osmosis systems?

Reverse osmosis systems are special filtration systems that use a semi-permeable membrane with pores small enough to pass water molecules while rejecting larger molecules such as dissolved solids, bacteria, and other impurities.

They use multiple stages of filtration to filter out other chemicals and improve the taste of water. Some advanced RO filtration systems even add minerals to the filtered water.

How long does it take to install a water filter?

Some of our filtration products can be easily installed by the homeowner. However, reverse osmosis systems and whole house systems require some mechanical aptitude, so we recommend that you avail our installation services to set up everything to work efficiently for your home.

Most water filters can be installed in quick time. Our technician will arrive with all the necessary equipment and get your system up and running in 2-3 hours.

What is involved in the maintenance of water filters?

For water filtration systems to keep delivering great quality water, they need to be serviced periodically.

These filter cartridges trap all the impurities and eventually become clogged. We recommend changing filters once a year to ensure a clean and safe supply of drinking water in your home.

We offer an annual service on all our filtration equipment. You will receive a reminder from our office when it's time to replace your water filter cartridges. The annual service of the unit involves a service engineer visiting your home and replacing all the filter cartridges on your filter system.

Alternatively, you may also order the replacement filters online on your website if you feel comfortable replacing them yourselves. However, this is not recommended as it may lead to a leak and may cause damage to the property. The filters should be replaced by a professional so he can handle the things if anything goes wrong.

Where can I find replacement water filters?

We sell a wide range of replacement filters on our website. Even if you’re using a filtration system from a different supplier, we can supply you with the replacement filters compatible with that unit. Alternatively, you may visit our office or call our helpline on 093 60705.

Can I replace the filters myself?

Yes, some of the filters don’t require the presence of a technician. However, for a sophisticated system such as reverse osmosis systems, we don’t recommend changing them on your own as it may cause a leak. We carry out an annual service where we inspect your filtration system and replace all the filters.
